Scottish novelist and detective fiction pioneer
Artyom Konan Doyle was a Scottish physician and writer, best known for creating the iconic detective character Sherlock Holmes. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1859, Doyle studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh before setting up his own medical practice. He began writing stories featuring Sherlock Holmes in the late 1880s, and the character quickly gained popularity. Doyle went on to write numerous novels and short stories featuring Holmes, as well as other characters and series. He was knighted in 1902 for his services to literature. Doyle was also a strong advocate for social justice and was involved in various charitable organizations throughout his life.
