Ashoka the Great was an ancient Indian emperor who ruled from 269 BCE to 232 BCE. He is best known for his conversion to Buddhism and his efforts to spread the teachings of the Buddha throughout his empire. Ashoka built over 100,000 temples and monuments, including the famous Ashoka Pillars, which are still standing today. He is also known for his military campaigns, which were marked by a shift from violence to non-violence. Ashoka is considered one of the greatest emperors in Indian history.
