Barney Rosset was an American publisher and activist. He was the founder and owner of Grove Press, a small independent publisher that played a significant role in the 1960s literary scene. Rosset was known for publishing works by authors such as Samuel Beckett, Jean Genet, and William S. Burroughs. He was also a vocal advocate for free speech and censorship, and was involved in several high-profile book-banning cases. Rosset died in 2012.
