Bernadette Soubirous was a French Catholic nun who is best known for her visions of the Virgin Mary at Lourdes. Born in 1844, Bernadette grew up in a poor family and was raised in a devout Catholic household. She became a nun at a young age and spent most of her life serving the poor and sick. Bernadette's visions of the Virgin Mary were a major event in Catholic history and led to the establishment of the shrine at Lourdes. She died in 1879 at the age of 35.
