Founder of NASCAR
Bill France Sr. was an American racing promoter and businessman. He is best known as the founder of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR). France was born in 1909 in Daytona Beach, Florida. He grew up in a family of modest means and was raised with a passion for racing. France began his career in racing in the 1930s, working as a promoter and organizer for various racing events. In 1948, he founded NASCAR, which quickly gained popularity. France was a key figure in the development of modern stock car racing and was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 1990. He passed away in 1992 at the age of 83.
