Blue Note vibraphonist and composer
Bobby Hutcherson was an American vibraphonist and composer who was a key figure in the development of modern jazz. Born in Oakland, California, he began his music career as a sideman before forming his own quartet. Hutcherson was known for his shimmering tone and harmonic daring, and his work with forward-thinking composers such as Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock helped redefine the vibraphone. He released several critically-acclaimed albums, including Components and Dialogue, and was a regular performer at jazz festivals around the world. Hutcherson was also a prolific composer, and his music continues to be celebrated by jazz fans around the globe.
