Brushy Bill Roberts was an American claimant who claimed to be the real Billy the Kid. Roberts was born in 1879 and grew up in New Mexico. He claimed to have been born in 1859 and to have been the real Billy the Kid, who had escaped to Mexico and changed his name. Roberts' claim was widely publicized and sparked a heated debate about the true identity of Billy the Kid.
