Former Medellín cartel leader and author
Carlos Lehder is a Colombian-American former leader of the Medellín cartel. He was born in 1949 in Medellín, Colombia. Lehder rose to prominence in the 1970s and 1980s as a key figure in the Medellín cartel, which was responsible for smuggling cocaine into the United States. Lehder was arrested in 1987 and extradited to the United States, where he was sentenced to 30 years in prison. He was released in 2005 and has since written a book about his life, 'Vida y Muerte del Cartel de Medellín'. Lehder has also been a vocal critic of the US government's handling of the war on drugs. He has appeared on several television shows, including '60 Minutes' and 'The O'Reilly Factor'.
