Carol Moseley Braun is a former U.S. Senator from Illinois, serving from 1993 to 1999. She was the first Black woman elected to the U.S. Senate and the first female senator from Illinois. Braun has also served as the Chair of the Democratic National Committee and has been a vocal advocate for women's rights and social justice.
