Prohibition activist and temperance advocate
Carrie Nation was a prominent figure in the temperance movement in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born in 1846 in Missouri, Nation became a saloon buster and a vocal advocate for the prohibition of alcohol. She traveled the country, smashing saloons and promoting her cause through public speaking and writing. Nation's activism led to her being arrested and imprisoned multiple times, but she continued to fight for her beliefs until her death in 1911.
