Pioneering astronomer and astrophysicist
Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin was a British-American astronomer and astrophysicist who made groundbreaking contributions to our understanding of the universe. Born in 1900 in London, England, Payne-Gaposchkin was one of the first women to earn a Ph.D. in astronomy from Harvard University. She went on to become a professor at Harvard and made several important discoveries, including the true composition of stars. Payne-Gaposchkin was a trailblazer for women in science and paved the way for future generations of female scientists. She died in 1979, but her legacy continues to inspire scientists and women around the world.
