Archbishop of Milan and reformer of the Catholic Church
Charles Borromeo was an Italian Catholic priest and Archbishop of Milan who played a key role in the Catholic Reformation. Born in 1538, Borromeo was a member of the noble Borromeo family and was educated at the University of Pavia. He became a priest at a young age and was appointed Archbishop of Milan in 1562. Borromeo was a strong advocate for reform and was instrumental in the development of the Roman Catechism. He also founded the Congregation of Clerks Regular of St. Paul, a religious order dedicated to pastoral work. Borromeo died in 1584 at the age of 46.
