Chinese dissident and activist
Chen Guangcheng is a Chinese human rights activist, dissident, and former blind lawyer. He was born in 1971 in Shandong Province, China. Chen became a lawyer in 1997 and began to advocate for human rights and social justice. In 2003, he was arrested and imprisoned for his activism. He escaped from prison in 2010 and fled to the United States, where he has continued to advocate for human rights and democracy in China. Chen has received numerous awards for his work, including the Sakharov Prize and the Human Rights Defenders Award.
