Belgian biochemist and Nobel laureate
Christian de Duve was a Belgian biochemist and Nobel laureate who made significant contributions to the field of cellular biology. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1974 for his work on the structure and function of mitochondria. De Duve was a professor at the Free University of Brussels and was known for his research on cellular respiration and the biochemistry of mitochondria. He was also a prolific writer and published several books on science and philosophy. De Duve was born in 1917 and passed away in 2014. He is considered one of the most important scientists of the 20th century.
