Claude Martin was a French adventurer and official of the British East India Company. He was born in 1748 in Lyon, France and joined the British East India Company in 1770. Martin served as the Company's agent in India and was instrumental in the development of the Company's trade and administrative systems. He was also a skilled artist and painter, and his works are still admired today for their beauty and historical significance. Martin died in 1803 in Lucknow, India.
