Clifford Irving

Clifford Irving is an American author and journalist, best known for faking an autobiography of Howard Hughes. Born in 1926, Irving grew up in a family of modest means and developed a passion for writing at an early age. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and later worked as a journalist for various publications. Irving's fake autobiography, which claimed Hughes had written it himself, was published in 1970 and became a bestseller. The book was later exposed as a hoax, but Irving's deception had already gained him widespread attention and notoriety. He has written several other books, including a memoir about his experiences as a fake author.
