Daniel Waters is an American screenwriter and novelist. He is best known for writing the screenplays for the films Heathers and Batman Returns. Waters was born in 1955 in New York City. He began his career as a writer for television, working on shows such as The Jeffersons and The Love Boat. He made his feature film debut with the 1988 film Heathers, which was a critical and commercial success. Waters' follow-up film, Batman Returns, was released in 1992 and received positive reviews from critics. In addition to his work in film, Waters has also written novels, including the 2006 novel The Girl Next Door. He has been nominated for several awards for his writing, including an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay for Heathers.
