David Gulpilil was an Australian actor and filmmaker of Yolngu and Irish descent. He was born in 1953 and grew up in North East Arnhem Land. Gulpilil began his acting career in the 1970s and went on to appear in numerous films and TV shows. He was a pioneer for Indigenous representation in the Australian film industry and was recognized for his work with several awards.
