Former Governor General of Canada
David Johnston is a Canadian lawyer and public servant who served as the 27th Governor General of Canada from 2010 to 2017. He was appointed to the position by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and served for seven years. Prior to his appointment, Johnston served as the Secretary of the Privy Council and as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada. He is known for his expertise in constitutional law and his commitment to public service. Johnston has also been recognized for his work on issues related to national security and foreign affairs. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto and the University of Oxford.
