Deborah Blum is an American author, science writer, and professor. She is a professor of science writing at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Blum has written several books on science and medicine, including The Poisoner's Handbook: Murder and the Birth of Forensic Medicine in Jazz Age New York. She has also written for various publications, including The New York Times and The Washington Post. Blum has received several awards for her writing, including the National Book Award. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Blum has a PhD in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She is known for her work on the intersection of science and society.
