About Derrick

Derrick Watson is an American lawyer and jurist who has served as a United States District Judge for the Middle District of Louisiana since 2017. He was appointed by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the Senate. Before becoming a judge, Watson served as a law clerk for Judge Edith Brown Sims of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School and Harvard College. Watson is known for his decisions on issues related to voting rights and civil rights.
