French army surgeon and medical pioneer
Dominique Jean Larrey was a French army surgeon who served as the Chief Surgeon of Napoleon's army during the Napoleonic Wars. He was born in 1766 in a French village and walked 70 miles to study in Toulouse at the age of 13. Larrey is credited with developing several medical treatments, including the use of hot water bottles to treat frostbite. He was known for his bravery and skill in the field, and was awarded several honors for his service. Larrey died in 1842 at the age of 76.
