Theologian and reformer
Philip Melanchthon was a German theologian and reformer who was a close friend and collaborator of Martin Luther. Born in 1497, Melanchthon studied at the University of Wittenberg and later became a professor of theology. He played a key role in the development of the Lutheran Church and was a key advisor to Luther. Melanchthon was also a skilled writer and helped to draft the Augsburg Confession, a document that outlined the principles of the Lutheran faith. He died in 1560 at the age of 63.
