The World Health Organization (WHO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is responsible for international public health. The WHO was established in 1948 and is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. The organization is led by a Director-General and has a staff of over 7,000 people from more than 150 countries. The WHO is responsible for setting global health policies and standards, as well as providing technical assistance and support to countries to improve their health systems.
