Éamon de Valera was a Irish politician and statesman who served as the President of Ireland from 1959 to 1973. He was a key figure in the Irish independence movement and played a major role in the country's struggle for self-rule. De Valera was born in New York City in 1880 and raised in rural Limerick. He studied law at University College Dublin and went on to become a lawyer and politician. He served as a member of the Irish Parliament and later became the leader of the Fianna Fáil party. De Valera was a strong advocate for Irish neutrality during World War II and was a key figure in the country's decision to remain neutral. He died in 1975 at the age of 95.
