Pulp fiction author and creator of Tarzan
Edgar Rice Burroughs was an American author best known for creating the Tarzan series. He was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1875 and grew up in a family of modest means. Burroughs began his writing career as a journalist, but eventually turned to fiction. He is best known for his Tarzan series, which was first published in 1912. Burroughs was also a prolific writer of science fiction and fantasy stories, and was a pioneer of the genre. He was a member of the Science Fiction Writers of America and was awarded the Hugo Award for Best Novel in 1955. Burroughs died in 1950, but his works continue to be widely read and adapted today.
