Edward Pigott was an English astronomer and mathematician who made significant contributions to the field of astronomy. He was born in 1753 and died in 1825. Pigott is best known for his work on variable stars and his discovery of the first known double star, 61 Cygni. He was a prominent figure in the astronomical community and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1785. Pigott's work built on the foundation laid by John Goodricke and he continued to make important contributions to the field of astronomy.
