Masako Owada is the Empress of Japan, born on January 9, 1963, in Tokyo. She is the wife of Emperor Naruhito and the first female emperor of Japan in over 1,000 years. Masako studied international relations at the University of Tokyo and later worked as a diplomat for the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She became the Empress in 2019 after her husband's ascension to the throne.
