Eugène Scribe was a French librettist and playwright who is best known for his work on operas. He was born in Paris in 1790 and studied law before turning to writing. Scribe's librettos were used by many famous composers, including Meyerbeer and Verdi. He was a prominent figure in the Parisian theatre scene and was known for his witty dialogue and engaging characters.
