F.W. De Klerk was a South African politician who served as President of South Africa from 1989 to 1994. He was a key figure in the transition from apartheid to democracy in South Africa and played a crucial role in the release of Nelson Mandela from prison. De Klerk was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 for his efforts to bring an end to apartheid and promote racial reconciliation in South Africa.
