Ferenc József was the Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary from 1848 until his abdication in 1916. He was the son of Francis Karl Joseph, Duke of Teschen, and Sophie of Bavaria. He became Emperor of Austria in 1848 and King of Hungary in 1867. He was a key figure in the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867, which created the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary. He was also a skilled diplomat and strategist, and played a significant role in the Franco-Prussian War. He abdicated the throne in 1916 due to the outbreak of World War I. He died in 1916, at the age of 86.
