He was drafted by the Canadiens in the second round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. Xhekaj has played for the Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).
