Frances Ellen Watkins Harper was an American poet, abolitionist, and women's rights activist. Born into slavery in Maryland, she escaped to freedom in Ohio and later became a prominent figure in the Underground Railroad. She was a prolific writer and published several collections of poetry, including “Poems of Nature” and “Mosses from an Old Manse”. Harper was also a strong advocate for women's rights and education, and she worked tirelessly to promote these causes throughout her life. She died in 1911 at the age of 85. Harper's poetry is known for its powerful and uplifting themes, and she remains one of the most celebrated African American poets of her time.
