Francis is the 266th Pope of the Catholic Church. Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on December 17, 1936, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He became the Pope on March 13, 2013. He is known for his progressive views on social issues and his emphasis on environmental protection. Before becoming Pope, he was the Archbishop of Buenos Aires and served as the President of the Argentine Bishops' Conference.
