Franklin Pierce was the 14th President of the United States. He served from 1853 to 1857 and was a member of the Democratic Party. Pierce was born in Hillsborough, New Hampshire, and graduated from Bowdoin College. He later attended Bowdoin Law School and was admitted to the bar in 1833. Pierce served in the New Hampshire State Legislature and later in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was elected President in 1852 and served until his death in 1869. Pierce is known for his role in the Kansas-Nebraska Act and his support for the expansion of slavery.
