Friedrich Meinecke was a German historian and professor of history at the University of Göttingen. He is best known for his book 'The German Catastrophe' (1946), which argued that National Socialism was a 'degeneration' of the German character and intellectual tradition. Meinecke was a prominent figure in German intellectual life during the 20th century and was known for his conservative and anti-communist views. He was also a prolific writer and published numerous articles and books on history and politics.
