General Gordon Granger
General Gordon Granger was a career United States Army officer who served in the American Civil War and during the Reconstruction era. He is best known for issuing General Order No. 3 on June 19, 1865, which announced the emancipation of all slaves in Texas. Granger played a significant role in the Reconstruction era, serving as the military governor of Texas from 1865 to 1866.
