Union General and Civil War Commander
George B. McClellan was a Union General during the American Civil War. He is best known for his leadership during the Peninsula Campaign and his role in the Battle of Antietam. McClellan was a graduate of West Point and served in the Mexican-American War before the Civil War. He was a skilled engineer and strategist, but his cautious approach to warfare often put him at odds with President Abraham Lincoln. McClellan was also a talented writer and published several books on military strategy. He is remembered as one of the most debated figures of the Civil War.
