Former U.S. Senate Majority Leader and Diplomat
George J. Mitchell is a former U.S. Senate Majority Leader and diplomat who served as the White House Chief of Staff under President Bill Clinton. He was a key player in the Northern Ireland peace process and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1998. Mitchell has also been a prominent figure in Democratic politics, serving as a senator from Maine from 1977 to 1995. He has written several books on politics and diplomacy, including his memoirs. Mitchell has been married to Janet Mitchell since 1963 and has two children. He is known for his work on the bipartisan Commission on Campaign Finance Reform.
