British Army officer
George Mackinnon was a British Army officer who served in the Xhosa Wars. He was a lieutenant colonel and led a column of British troops during the conflict. Mackinnon was known for his bravery and tactical skills, but was also criticized for his treatment of Xhosa prisoners. He was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions during the war. Mackinnon retired from the army and lived out his life in England. He died in 1885 at the age of 75.
