Belgian priest and astrophysicist
Georges Lemaître was a Belgian priest and astrophysicist who is best known for his work on the Big Bang theory. He was born in 1894 in Etterbeek, Belgium and studied mathematics and physics at the Catholic University of Leuven. Lemaître went on to become a professor of mathematics at the Catholic University of Leuven and later at the University of Cambridge. He was a key figure in the development of the Big Bang theory and his work on the expansion of the universe was widely recognized. Lemaître was also a devout Catholic and saw his work as a way to understand the creation of the universe. He died in 1970 at the age of 76. Lemaître's work has had a lasting impact on our understanding of the universe and he is still widely cited today.
