Georgios Papandreou was a Greek politician who served as Prime Minister of Greece from 1963 to 1967 and again from 1974 to 1978. He was a key figure in the Greek military junta of 1967-1974. Papandreou was born in 1919 in Thessaloniki, Greece. He studied law at the University of Athens and later earned a doctorate in economics from the University of Paris. He was a prominent figure in the Greek Communist Party and served as its leader from 1955 to 1964. Papandreou was a strong advocate for socialism and nationalization of industries. He was also a vocal critic of the Western Bloc and the United States. He was arrested and imprisoned several times for his political activities. Papandreou was released from prison in 1975 and returned to politics, serving as Prime Minister of Greece from 1974 to 1978. He died in 1996.
