Italian astronomer and discoverer of Ceres
Giuseppe Piazzi was an Italian astronomer born in 1746 in Palermo, Sicily. He is best known for discovering the planet Ceres in 1801, which was initially considered to be a full-fledged planet but was later reclassified as an asteroid. Piazzi made significant contributions to the field of astronomy, including the discovery of several other asteroids and comets. He was a member of the Royal Academy of Sciences in Naples and was recognized for his work with several awards and honors. Piazzi passed away in 1826.
