Gregor Mendel was a botanist and geneticist who is considered the father of modern genetics. He was born in Brno, Czech Republic in 1822 and spent his career studying the inheritance of traits in plants. He is known for his work on the laws of inheritance, which were published in 1866. He is considered one of the most important scientists of the 19th century.
