French writer and historian
Gustave de Beaumont was a French writer and historian. He is best known for his travel writings, particularly 'Twenty Years in Exile', which describes his experiences in the United States in the 1830s. Beaumont was born in Paris, France in 1802 and died in Paris in 1866. He was a prominent writer and historian of his time and his works have had a significant impact on modern American studies. Beaumont was also a close friend and collaborator of Alexis de Tocqueville, and the two men traveled together to the United States in the 1830s.
