Hamed Abdel-Samad is an Egyptian-German writer, journalist, and public intellectual. He was born in 1970 in Alexandria, Egypt. Abdel-Samad has written extensively on Middle Eastern politics, history, and culture. He has worked as a journalist and editor for various publications, including the German newspaper Die Zeit. Abdel-Samad has also been a vocal critic of Islamophobia and has written several books on the subject. He is currently a professor at the University of Hamburg.
