Denmark's 18th-century missionary and colonizer
Hans Egede was a Danish missionary who arrived in Greenland in 1721. He established a mission and began to convert the Inuit to Christianity. Egede's colonization efforts were marked by the use of royal monopolies and efforts to eradicate Indigenous culture. He is considered one of the key figures in the colonization of Greenland.
