Helen Keller was an American author, disability rights advocate, and lecturer who was born in 1880 and died in 1968. She was deaf and blind from the age of 19 months, but learned to communicate through touch and went on to graduate from college and become a renowned speaker and writer. Keller was a leading figure in the disability rights movement and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1964. She is best known for her autobiography, which was published in 1903 and became an international bestseller.
