Novelist and literary critic
Henry James was a renowned novelist and literary critic of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born in New York City, James was raised in a family of modest means and was educated at Harvard University. He went on to study at Cambridge University, where he developed a passion for literature and philosophy. James is best known for his novels of psychological insight and moral complexity, including The Ambassadors, The Portrait of a Lady, and The Turn of the Screw. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1905 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest novelists of all time.
