The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is a federal executive department of the United States government. It was created in response to the September 11 attacks in 2001. DHS is responsible for protecting the country from terrorist threats and other national security risks. It is headed by a Secretary, who is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate.
